STATEMENT OF INTENT

The plan for my TV documentary is a story about a biker’s rise to fame, showcasing how they achieved this through hard work and setbacks. It will feature the start of their interest, development and eventually current day, acting as a timeline of events to show audiences how they got to this point. For the advertisements, they will feature imagery of mountain biking, as this is the focus of the documentary. The pictures shown will comply with the ASA, for instance, not displaying any offensive, violent, or distressing media to audiences, as these billboards will be seen by all. However, due to the nature of some of the content in the documentary (e.g., biking-related injuries), it will likely be broadcasted later in the evening, but not past the watershed. Although some sensitive content will be covered, it will be appropriately censored for TV broadcasting.

This ties to the target audience of the documentary, which are 16 to 25 year olds who have an interest in biking and sports. Especially for teen viewers, seeing someone’s success story from a similar age may inspire them to pursue their passions. Biking is also a popular topic on social media platforms, such as TikTok, and the biker’s posts on there leading to fame can inspire others to share their interests with likeminded people.

When thinking about the content shown in the billboards, the main character will be represented in a positive light. The pictures will represent their journey to fame, with imagery of jumps representing the biker overcoming hurdles and tough points over time. Showing the biker doing repairs on their bike can be used to symbolise them working hard to pursue their dreams, with the focus being on the bike itself. The bike will be the focus of the pictures, as it represents a key source of their identity and expression. Both the biker, bike, and any other imagery will be portrayed in a positive light as this is a story of success.
